I just came back from the Big Seminar in Atlanta that basically teaches people how to make money on the Internet. Joel Comm, of NY Times best-selling “AdSense Code” and a Google AdSense guru was one of the speakers and pulled up Travels With Sheila during his presentation to illustrate ad placements, and emphasize content above all else.
Joel then asked me to come up on stage and tell the 400 people in the audience a little about why travel is my passion. To summarize, I related how I saved whatever money I could for an entire year, looked for off-season bargains and dragged two children under the age of 3 into airports AND sat in the airport all night because, in those days, red-eye flights cost less! That’s how important travel was, and is, to me.
I then went on to say, contrary to what Travel & Leisure and/or Conde Nast Traveler would have you believe with all the emphasis on $1,000/night hotel rooms….You can do it! You can travel on the cheap everywhere in the world. There are billions of very nice people out there, eager to interact with you and accommodation choices for every budget.
After my few minutes of fame and Joel Comm’s concluding statements, I ran out of the meeting room heading for a much needed Ladies Room break… followed by women! I’m trying to get in a stall as fast as possible and they all want to ask me questions! Rushing to finish and make a plane heading home, I shouted out brief answers to questions from my stall and told them to e-mail me via Travels With Sheila and I’d be more than happy to help.
Some of the questions?
- I want to travel but my husband doesn’t want to go…
- I want to travel but don’t have much money and want to take my 4-year old…
- I want to travel but have never gone anywhere by myself…
It is my hope that everything I write will empower and encourage you to take the step. Travels With Sheila is a labor of love. I’m not a travel agent but write me…ask questions…and I’ll give you whatever advice (quite a bit learned the hard way) to help. YOU CAN DO IT! Remember, life is most definitely not a dress rehearsal. This may be your only chance in life…YOU CAN DO IT!
And, by the way, Joel Comm was that little 7-month old who I walked through Miami Airport for hours that very long night feeding him Graham Crackers (that he gummed and slimed all over the place) along with older brother, Michael, age 2-1/2!
