Morocco is an extremely popular destination, perceived as a “safe country without any problems” and you can be fairly certain that there won’t be any. Besides that, Morocco is clean, efficient and easy to get around. A few suggestions:
- Head south towards the desert area or base yourself in Agadir and take day trips to towns like Ouazazarte, Taroudant and Tafroute;
- Tafroute is located in the heart of the Anti-Atlas. Take time to trek or wander through the scenic boulders, mountains and typical small, mud-bricked villages. Tafroute bears a big resemblance to Arizona;
- Taroudant has a wonderful year-round climate, a great souk with no hassles, and is surrounded by city walls and ramparts. Good hotels, excellent food…what more could you ask for;

- In hindsight, wish we had spent more time in Ouazazarte to go into the desert for one or two nights, and tour the Atlas Studios (one of the largest movie studios in the world);
- Everyone visits Marrakech for its sights and hustle-bustle in the souks and around Djemma el Fna, Marrakech’s famous square. The two days we spent were not enough to really get the flavor of this city and leisurely explore instead rushing from sight to sight. Just prepare yourself to be persuaded by almost every local to part with your money. Whether it’s “guiding” or selling, you will constantly be assailed. Part of the experience and fun but be aware; and
- Include Casablanca and Fes in your itinerary if you have oodles of time. Unfortunately, we didn’t and will just have to return to Morocco…as if that would be a hardship!

Basic Information?
- Visas are not required for most visitors to Morocco;
- Use ATM’s to exchange money;
- Morocco is extremely cheap if you take the safe public buses or grande taxis between towns, stay in the clean and plentiful small hotels, riads or backpacker’s hostels and eat Moroccan food. (There are also many, many western chains.); and
- Again, no major problems with food or water as long as you use common sense. Drink bottled water only, don’t eat raw foods, “cook, peel or forget it…”, and carry basic medication with you.
It’s time to visit Africa. Enjoy…
