Small Tilcara Market and Sights in Argentina
Small Tilcara is located in the heart of the Quebrada de Humahuaca. It is a UNESCO site and a major tourist center. Pucara de Tilcara is a pre-Inca archaeological site offering insight into people who lived here over 10,000 years ago. Located on the outskirts of Tilcara, guide Maru feels it isn’t as worthwhile as the ruins of Santa Rosa de Tastil.
The mainly indigenous population is Kolla indians who welcome tourists to this relatively poor area. Tailrace has a church. The main sights are a pre-Columbian cemetery (8 kilometers/4 miles north of Tilcara), the Pucara de Tilcara archaeological site, and a few museums.
Tourist just wander around the Main Square and cobblestone streets. Tilcara is a good base to visit the surrounding area. But other than a fun market, I’d stay in Humahuaca or Purmamauca.Sharing is caring:
