Fast and Easy Information to Visit Jordan

Unlike the response when I mention “Syria,” almost every tourist wants to see Petra. As mentioned earlier in this series, Jordan is perceived as a “safe country without any problems” and you can be fairly certain that there won’t be any. Besides that, Jordan is clean, efficient and easy to get around. A few suggestions:

- Follow the King’s Highway to Madaba to see that unbelievable mosaic map;

- Ascend the ridge of Mount Nebo;

- Spend at least one day in incredible Jerash right outside Amman;

- Wadi Rum would be enjoyable to camp in, hike to see the inscriptions and go further into the desert. Camel caravans can be organized without any problem;

- There is also the eastern desert to visit with 7th and 8th century castles built by the Umayyad caliphs of Damascus. There are at least five of them but Qasr Amra is supposed to be the most impressive of the desert castles; and

- Without a doubt, you want to visit Petra – the ultimate magnificent and hidden city. Spend as many days and time possible seeing the sights detailed earlier. Take your time walking around and avoid midday when it becomes beastly hot. The fantabulous colors also photograph better in the early morning and late afternoon.

Basic Information?

- Visas are required for all visitors to Jordan and you can usually obtain yours at most international ports of entry upon arrival.. Visit the Jordan Embassy site for U.S. and West European visa information;

- Use ATM’s to exchange money; and

- Again, no major problems with food or water as long as you use common sense. Jordan is very clean but still drink bottled water only, don’t eat raw foods, “cook, peel or forget it…yadda…yadda”

It’s time to visit the Middle East. Enjoy…
