An “Adventuring in South Africa” Luxury Tour

Ten years ago, a tour from Wilderness Travel caught my eye called “Adventuring in South Africa.” This 18-day wildlife, cultural and moderate hiking adventure would follow the South Africa coastline from Kruger National Park south to Cape Town. Along the way, the itinerary would take in many of South Africa’s most interesting and cultural sights. Game viewing in private reserves, the coast of Maputaland, Zululand with a chance to learn something about the Zulu culture, head into the Eastern Cape Province and take day hikes along the Tsitsikamma Otter Trail, wine-tastings, and complete the journey in Cape Town, one of the world’s most scenic cities.

What gives ex-Marine (husband, Steve) and myself a good laugh is if you click on this Wilderness Travel link itinerary for “Adventuring in South Africa,” our group photograph is still featured on this page.

Adventuring in South Africa is still limited to only 8 participants per departure because small plane charter flights are utilized for portions of this trip. This is an excellent, popular trip that has been run for over 10 years with just slight changes, and there are many departures scheduled during 2009-2010. Take advantage of the devaluation of the South African Rand (ZAR) and book one.

This was not an inexpensive trip by any means and we waffled back and forth for weeks trying to decide. Finally, came to the conclusion that it would be a once-in-a-lifetime vacation and committed. In hindsight and after reviewing a few of the many other luxury lodges and tours to South Africa, this Wilderness Travel “Adventuring in South Africa” was inexpensive in comparison. For example, Singita Lebombo Lodge is $1,000 U.S. PER PERSON PER NIGHT.

Deposits in, it was time to plan the rest of this trip…
