The old town is so fascinating with narrow cobblestone streets, the river canal, a daily market with fresh fruits and flowers. Too many sidewalk cafes to even mention, with people sitting everywhere in the sun, walking, and eating ice cream. View image
Go to the Ljubljana website for extremely detailed information on all the things to see.
We enoyed going in and out of City Hall… View image…wandering around the streets by the river…

…and around the historic center….

The Dragon Bridge is one of the City’s most prominent landmarks. It is very Art Nouveau and the sheet-copper dragon statues became the symbol of Ljubljana. The architect originally envisaged winged lions instead of dragons and the bridge lamps are part of the original decoration.
The Youth Hostel Celica (in Ljubjana) was a former Prison, and 20 cells have maintained the original cells bars on the door and window. Each of these 20 cells has been artistically renovated. It took 10 years to renovate and 80 Slovene and foreign artists conducted the renovation of the former prison. The Hostel was formerly military barracks built in 1882 but were demilitarized after Slovenia’s independence and departure of the Federal Yugoslav Army. What an unusual Hostel! We visited (they have tours of the cells every day at 2:00 pm) and would be fun to stay there.
We ended that day eating pizza along the canal, just enjoying the ambiance of this quaint City.
